The Catholic Diocese of Mendi

The Catholic Diocese of Mendi is located in the Highlands region of Papua New Guinea.

The Catholic Diocese of Mendi comprises the Southern Highlands Province and the Hela Province of Papua New Guinea. Demographically, it is a mountainous and rural region of the country. It is about 25,000 square kilometres in area. The overall population of the diocese is approaching almost one million people. More than fifteen-percent of the population is Catholic.

History of the Diocese of Mendi

The history of the Diocese of Mendi is the story of courageous priests, consecrated religious and lay-faithful preaching, embracing and living faith in Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Diocese of Mendi is made up of the Southern Highlands Province and the Hela Province in the Highlands region of Papua New Guinea.  We are a vibrant young church seeking to share the joy of the Gospel of Jesus through our parishes, schools, health centers - and in many other ways.
