The logo is inspired by the following verse from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah: "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the one bringing good news, announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing salvation, saying to Zion, 'Your God is King!'" (Is 52:7). The prominent symbols are: mountains, the Diocese of Mendi is located in the mountainous Highlands region of PNG and comprises both the Southern Highlands Province and the Hela Province of PNG; the open book of the Gospels, the Good News which was brought by the early missionaries and which has been accepted and has taken root among the peoples that make up the diocese; the Cross of Christ, representing the Paschal Mystery, which is the heart and center of the Good News for Christians, for through it, God offers unconditional love and salvation to all. Circling the major symbols is the above-mentioned verse from the Prophet Isaiah.
The logo was created by Spanish graphic artist, Francisco Miguel González Salado with some ideas he received from the Renewal Team of the diocese. (Mr. González Salado is a member of the ecclesial movement 'The Work of the Church' with which Bishop Donald is also associated.)
At the end of the Holy Mass at which the Jubilee of the Diocese was launched (together with the Jubilee of Mercy), representatives of the three deaneries of the diocese came forth and were presented by the bishop with 'Missionary' Bibles - which will be carried in pilgrimage to many of the 350 outstations of the diocese and be the center of activities of evangelization and faith formation among the people.
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the one bringing Good News!"
