Thousands of people gathered at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Det, Southern Highlands Province for a colourful and inspiring celebration of faith and culture.

People gathered for the blessing of a new Grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary as well as the blessing of a new Maternity and Child Health Center that has recently been constructed.

Many people came in their traditional attire and added colour and solemnity to the celebrations.  The center of the celebration was the open air Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Donald.  The principal concelebrants were Father Jonathan Williams, OFM Cap., the Custos of the Capuchin Friars of PNG/SI and Father Sunny Mathew, OFM Cap., the parish priest of SS Peter and Paul Parish in Det.  Also in attendence were the Swiss Franciscan Sisters, the Franciscan Sisters of Mary, and many others.

The Grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary was constructed by Father Sunny and the members of the Youth Group.

For decades now, Det has been a center of the compassionate and professional care of Catholic Health Services.  The new Child and Maternal Health center will be a great asset to the existing health services provided in Det.

The celebration was an occasion of joy for the hundreds who came to participate.
